Abstract

This study explores how managerial internal crisis communication (ICC) strategies in high-risk industries shape organizational resilience and communication effectiveness. Using in-depth interviews with 19 experienced crisis managers from the oil and gas and electricity power generation sectors, the study identifies sector-specific adaptations in internal crisis communication. Findings show that centralized power generation organizations emphasize protocol-driven communication, while decentralized oil and gas organizations prioritize adaptive messaging. The study proposes a comparative framework and empirically grounded measurement indicators for evaluating ICC effectiveness. It extends Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) to internal organizational contexts and provides practical tools, including a sector-specific ICC playbook template and measurement framework, to improve organizational resilience and crisis management.
