Mobile Payment Payment Adoption Among Rural Petrol Station Dealers in Malaysia_ A Review.pdf Download (591kB) |
Abstract
This review examines the adoption of mobile payment (m-payment) among rural petrol station dealers in Malaysia. A total of 325 articles were initially identified, with 135 studies meeting the inclusion criteria (English-language, full-length articles published between 2018–2022). The review highlights that research has largely focused on consumer adoption rather than merchants, leaving a significant gap in understanding rural merchant acceptance. The findings identify cost, security, and attitude as the primary barriers influencing the adoption of m-payment among rural petrol station dealers. The study also discusses theoretical foundations based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), proposing future research directions and practical recommendations to accelerate digital payment adoption in rural areas.
