Abstract

This systematic review examines the historical development, current trends, technological advancements, and consumer preferences associated with vending machines. It discusses their evolution from early dispensing devices to modern automated retail systems offering diverse products and services. The review highlights technologies such as air fryers, fingerprint identification, smart manufacturing, cloud computing, and IoT, as well as growing consumer demand for healthier products and contactless services. Sustainability considerations include biodegradable packaging and energy-efficient machine designs. The study ultimately seeks to support development of a universal vending-machine assessment tool and future innovations that better address consumer needs and healthier dietary choices.
