Abstract

The UPTM Academic AI Assistant Tools is a web-based system developed to support academic activities among students and lecturers at Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), particularly within the Faculty of Computing and Multimedia (FCOM). The system integrates artificial intelligence (AI) technology to assist users in generating, organizing, and understanding academic content more effectively. It was designed in response to the challenges faced when using general-purpose AI tools, such as complex prompt creation, lack of academic focus, and security risks associated with external data storage. Developed using the PHP Laravel framework for backend management and HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap for the frontend interface, the system offers a user-friendly, secure, and responsive environment. Key features include built-in academic templates, which simplify academic writing, learning and teaching tasks. The system also emphasizes security through authentication, role-based access control, password hashing, and session management to ensure data protection and privacy within UPTM’s internal environment. The project’s implementation follows a structured software development process, involving requirement gathering, design, development, and testing. Testing results confirmed that all modules, including AI integration and user management, function as intended. Overall, the system successfully achieves its objectives by providing ready-to-use academic AI tools that enhance productivity, support teaching and learning, and maintain data security, making it a reliable academic support platform tailored to institutional needs.
