Abstract

This study explores crowdfunding as an alternative funding mechanism for higher education in Malaysia. Using semi-structured interviews with higher education stakeholders, it evaluates crowdfunding's potential to expand educational access, encourage innovation, support community engagement and improve the financial sustainability of higher education institutions. It also examines regulatory, equity, governance, transparency and accountability challenges associated with crowdfunding.
